PLEASE NOTE IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING RATES FOR 2009

The Authority hopes that each of you have a happy and safe year to come!

SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2009

The Authority is planning to replace several older water mains on our system during 2009. The goal is to upgrade older mains with pipes made of newer and superior materials. Also the pipes will be of increased size. The larger size will help the system hydraulics generally and increase flows in some sections which will be of benefit in having better fire hydrant capacity in the areas upgraded. Another goal is that with the newer pipes and related connections the chance of water leaks will be greatly reduced. We are happy to say that the project is being planned to work in conjunction with street and storm water upgrades planned by the Borough. By working together we hope to achieve our individual goals and at a cost savings to our residents.

COLD WEATHER REMINDER

As we are all aware, the costs of goods and services have increased during the past year. The Water Authority has also seen much higher costs in the services, goods and materials we need as well. It seems that on many of our deliveries we see an added "fuel surcharge" in addition to the higher base costs. We are also facing increasing regulations that result in higher costs. We take pride in providing safe drinking water that meets and exceeds the federal and state standards. We always strive to maintain our system to the highest standards for sourcing and delivery of water throughout the system. With all of that in mind we find it necessary to implement a small increase in rates for water used after the meter reads for the January 1, 2009 billing cycle. The increase is five percent (5%). This means that if your quarterly water bill was $65.00 per quarter in the past it changes to $68.25, or just over $1.00 (one dollar) per month more in 2009. The chart below explains the rate structure in detail. The periods will remain the same as in years past: water will be billed each quarter (every 3 months), and the first 30 days after the bill date a 5% discount is offered, and after 30 days of the bill date the face amount is due, and there is a 10% penalty added to all bills not paid after 60 days of the bill date (days 61-90). These rate periods are shown on each bill form.

The minimum charge was $13.06 going to $13.72 - includes that first 1,000 gallons of use - based on the flat rate

Each 1,000 gallons used thereafter was $4.80 going to $5.04 - based on the flat rate

Another example: 15,000 gallons - per quarter (3 months)

discount = 80.02, flat rate = 84.24, penalty = 92.67 or less than 26.68 per month if paid in discount period.
